Suggesting Gradius V with the infinite lives code is kind of encouraging bad habits, because at the end of the day nothing is learned and technique is not developed, and following that route these games will always be too hard for people. Look, OK, I wasn't suggesting the game is an easy clear for a total beginner, but I think it's certainly one of the easier goals to aim for amongst the MD shooter library - There's a lot of difficult games there, let's face it, and a lot of them hand my arse back to me on the regular - which is why I think they're still worth playing. It favours quick reflexes and good shield management. It prefers to sling fast bullets at you, especially at the higher difficulties, but the shield is everywhere and bosses go down quickly from point blanking as I said in my post. I'm not great at these games by any means, but I think I have enough XP under my belt to question your categorizing Darius II as some sort of memorizor ala R-Type - that sounds like what you're trying to say, claiming you have to play it over and over again until the difficulty is trivialized.īut Darius II isn't that sort of game. I LOVE Darius 2 but it's a prime example of a shmup that gets frustrating fast if you don't have any experience with shmups. That level is pretty brutal, but if you use Earthquake it's easier to clear off enemies quickly so you don't have quite so much to dodge. The other weapons just aren't powerful enough.

My specific advice for that game is you need to use the Earthquake weapon (hopefully with your satellite powerups) when you get there. I have beaten Gate of Thunder however, with a bit of effort. I'm not great at shmups, even though I like them. If I play it daily, I can get to the 'Dark City' stage without losing a ship, and then it just falls apart from there. The only shmup I have been able to get any headway on is Gate Of Thunder. I would like to get my feet wet without dying every 10 seconds. I mean I suck really, really bad at them. I never really played them until recently, and I just suck. Seriously everyone, what is the hands down, easiest shmup? Any system will do, but I prefer Genesis, Sega CD, SNES, or PC-Engine CD. Those two I recommend if you want a couple of easy 1CCs under your belt. It took me a week to get the Hard 1CC on TFIII. I found both these games easier even than TFIII, since it takes longer to remember that game's cheap shots (necessary) than it does to get by on just reactions alone with those two IMO. The game has 12 stages, which is long by modern standards, but the way your ship takes hits is extremely forgiving. Very close to doing the same thing on Very Hard, although the bullet speed gets ridiculous, the shield drops are apparently a lot more prolific than the arcade version which is a different kettle of fish altogether.ĭangerous Seed is another one I 1CCd on the day it arrived.
